The Blanket Toss today is used as a form of recreation and celebration, but historically, the blanket toss had a much more serious purpose. As much of the coast of Northern & Western Alaska is barren and flat, the native people of this region would use a blanket made from the hide of a walrus to toss a member of their hunting party high into the air in order to spot game.

This delightful pin cushion is made in Alaska and features 8 people engaged in a blanket toss. The figurines heads are made of wood and feature a mink ruff. Base color will vary. Large is approximately 5" in diameter, small is approx. 4" in diameter. At his item uses animal fur, it is not eligible for international orders.
