2010 Official Alaska State medallion
This medallion, made by the Alaska Mint in Anchorage, Alaska, is sanctioned by the Alaska State legislature under State Statute: 44.09.017. A design contest is held each year, open to all Alaska residents and judged by the Alaska Council of the Arts. The theme for the 2010 Official Alaska State medallion is a black bear. This years coin was designed by Jackie Cote Suter, of Anchorage. She is a well known Alaskan artist and has designed Alaska Railroad, and some Alaskan aviation medallions in the past. These medallions are minted out of pure silver, silver with gold highlights, and pure 24 karat solid gold. They are minted in limited quantities, and have been popular with collectors for over 20 years.
