Alaska Native art work by Ryan Vukson. This Native kayaker is approx. 3"(h) x 6"(w) and is handmade in Alaska from soapstone. Available in green or yellow soapstone and in two poses, throwing a spear or holding a spear overhead. Materials include:
Wood (spear)
Mink fur (parka ruff)
Soapstone (kayak)
Resin (kayaker, casted)
Soapstone is a soft rock with a soapy feel. Alaska Native artists may use it because it's widely available and easy to carve. Soapstone ranges in color from gray to green, and while it scratches easily, it also resists acids, chemicals, and heat. As these items are handcrafted, each one is slightly different. This item contains animal parts (Mink) and is not available for international shipments.
